Physical activities for people with disabilities flourish in China (white paper)

BEIJING, March 3 (Xinhua) — Physical activities for people with disabilities have flourished in China, a white paper on the country’s parasports said Thursday.

The white paper, titled “Parasports in China: Progress and Protection of Rights,” was released by the State Council Information Office.

China regards rehabilitation and fitness activities for people with disabilities as one of the main components in the implementation of its national strategies of Fitness-for-All initiative, Healthy China and Building China into a Country Strong. on Sports, says the white paper.

National para-sport activities are carried out, with their enriched content. Sports services are improved and scientific research and education are intensified, the white paper says.

The participation rate in basic cultural and sports activities for people with disabilities increased from 6.8 percent in 2015 to 23.9 percent in 2021 in China, according to the white paper.

Winter sports for people with disabilities are on the rise, the white paper says. He added that China has held a winter sports season for people with disabilities every year since 2016.

According to the white paper, rehabilitation and fitness services for people with disabilities continue to improve in China.

By 2020, a total of 10,675 disability-friendly sports venues had been built nationwide, 125,000 instructors had been trained, and 434,000 households of severely disabled people had received rehabilitation and home fitness services, indicates the document.
