Post-Covid physical activities: fatal or normal?

CitySpidey hosted a LIVE session with renowned (Dr) Col Anil Dhall, Professor and Head, Cardiology, Janakpuri Super Specialty Hospital. Dr Dhall has served in many hospitals before and is a recipient of the Sena Medal.

The LIVE session responded if one should resume exercise after recovering from Covid-19. (Dr) Col Dhall spoke about his extensive experience in Covid care, particularly in heart complications in Covid patients. The doctor said it had been noticed that the people who were affected and who succumbed to the coronavirus were those who were obese, hypertensive, diabetic, smokers and those who were known to have heart disease or lung disease.

The doctor explained how the new coronavirus affects a person and why some people are safer to succumb to death due to their vulnerable health condition. With this, he also pointed out how people began to neglect their routine checkups, especially those who already had chest pain or heart disease due to fear of the coronavirus, and how this neglect accumulated risk factors for get heart disease. He also explained how the crown affects the heart and even discussed angina and silent heart attacks. The doctor explained the symptoms that could be a sign of heart disease and the importance of seeing a cardiologist in such cases.

He shared a phrase, “Uchit ahar, uchit vyavahar, uchit vichaar aur samay anusaar uchit upchaar toh shayad nahi padenge hum beemar.” With this formula, he stressed the importance of taking care and the right precautions to avoid illness and premature death.

(Dr) Col Dhall explained heart muscle thrombosis in recovered corona patients and even pointed out that corona is not a two week disease, it is not just the lungs or oxygen. He said that whatever efforts or precautions doctors, researchers, government and organizations take, we need to understand that viruses tend to mutate. One must not stop following the appropriate behavior of Covid or following the standards.

Speaking about whether one should resume exercise after recovering from Covid-19, the doctor said vigorous exercise should not be done for at least 3 months after recovery from Covid, but again should not stop doing basic physical activities such as walking and doing breathing exercises.
