Some physical activities postponed at Manistee Senior Center

Hello Manistee County! Another great week and it looks like things will continue to improve now that spring has arrived. I hope you are having a good weekend and that you have good plans.

I want to say a big thank you to everyone who came out on Friday afternoon to work on some issues around the Wagoner Community Center. The senior softball team and the Tai Chi group came to work on some outdoor projects. It’s so nice to have extra hands involved in these projects. It’s easier to accomplish so much more.

We received such a wonderful donation from the chamber leadership group who raised funds to help us have outdoor space for the Wagoner Community Center. As we still have a lot of work to do inside and outside the building, we decided to embellish the façade around the fountain. We have a bunch of stumps that will be removed and some very overgrown areas that we are working on. We are also working to put the fountain back in place and install benches and picnic tables for people to visit and enjoy the outdoors. We’ll have lots of flowers and some raised beds, so everyone can get their hands dirty. We are so excited about the changes on the outside. I would like to say a huge thank you to the chamber and chamber management group who are amazing!

With the good weather, it seems that some of our group exercise programs are attracting fewer people. Instead of just having them for a few people, I think we’ll bring them back in the fall. Tai Chi is once again held at Fifth Avenue Beach, unless it rains they will be at the Wagoner Community Center. Zumba will be postponed until the fall, as will yoga and cardio drums. Our chair yoga class is taking a very short break but will continue in June. If you have other ideas for programs or activities, let us know. We want to provide our seniors in Manistee County with things they love to do.

I’ve looked at some topics that I think might be interesting, but I want to know what interests you. We are working on a Birding 101 course for June which I think will be popular. We also have Paint Mistress, Lisa Kennedy, coming over for a Sip & Stroke paint party. We picked a really fun Michigan image that we think everyone will love. Call us for more information or to register.

We are looking for volunteers to start our Seniors Visiting Seniors program. It’s a great way to give back to your community and spend some time with homebound and isolated seniors. If this sounds like something you’re interested in, give us a call for more information.

Have you ever been lonely, sad, maybe even depressed? If so, come in and hang out at the senior center. We always have something fun and people who would like to visit.

This week we have Toe Tapping Tuesday and Popcorn and a Movie at the Vogue. Check out the weekly schedule and find something you’d like to do.

The dates and times for the FRESH project are scheduled for June, if you want to know when we will be coming to your part of the country, give us a call or drop by and get the schedule.

Hope you are having a great week and don’t forget to try something new!
