Sport Singapore (Sport SG) updated its guidelines on safety management measures for sports and physical exercises and activities (SMM) on March 27, following the announcement of the easing of community SMMs by the Ministry Task Force (MTF) on March 24. The new Sport SG SMM guidelines will come into effect from March 29.
The new simplified SMMs will allow mask wearing to be optional when participating in sports or physical activity outdoors. Wearing a mask will remain compulsory indoors during intense activities.
The group size limit will also increase to groups of 10 people, and groups will have to keep a distance of at least one meter from each other.
Site capacities will also increase for hidden activities, which will now be subject to a 75% capacity limit, up from 50%. Class size limits for unmasked indoor classrooms with fully vaccinated individuals will also be waived, subject to current fire safety guidelines and venue capacity.
Unvaccinated children aged 12 and under will only be allowed to have one group of 10, including an instructor, and children are no longer required to be from the same household.
Current SMMs such as wearing a mask and safe distancing will still apply before and after sporting activity, and during breaks. Participants who do not play during the match will have to be masked and respect a distance of one meter with unmasked players on the pitch or on the pitch.
Food and drink at sports venues can now be provided and consumed in specially designated areas within the venue, subject to the one meter safe distancing rule and group size limit of 10 people.
More than 1,000 spectators for sporting events are also permitted, as long as they do not exceed the 75% capacity limit based on its fire safety requirement or the number of fixed seats available. Spectators will also be allowed to clap, sing or whistle if they are wearing masks.
Each match is only permitted to have up to 10 people on the field of play at any given time, unless taking place at supervised or operated sports facilities such as ActiveSG and other approved private facilities by SportSG as part of the takeover of Bigger Team Sport Formats that will allow up to 30 vaccinated individuals in the field.
Sporting events held within existing SMMs no longer require Sport Singapore’s approval to proceed. Only events with SMM deviations, such as competitions beyond the prevailing group size limits, will need to be approved by Sport Singapore before they can be staged. The organizers must submit a application to Sport SG at least 14 days before the start of the event to allow time for evaluation and discussion.
Organizers are also advised not to undertake any related publicity efforts until they have received approval from Sport SG.
